About the Project
Plymouth State University began a migration from an old content management system (CMS) to WordPress in 2010. The Silver Center for the Arts was still operating in the old CMS environment and needed to make a quick transition to the newly supported system.
The migration from one system to another gave the Silver Center an opportunity to create web pages and menu systems which were more easily managed. In many instances, what previously took the web editor several steps to achieve was able to be automated through WordPress (for example, dynamic lists of event categories are automatically generated; ticket prices are entered into one text field and displayed in several locations throughout the site, and events automatically expire after they are over). In addition to regular page content, almost every aspect of the site is customizable by the editors from home page content to links in the page footer to the “Questions? Call us” banner at the top of the page. Taking advantage of the WordPress tagging system also allows editors to promote events similar to the current event being viewed by the site visitor.
